The Lonely Book (with music CD)
    32 pages - 24 x 24cm. Ages 3-8. Personally signed by songwriter.
The Lonely book sits in the children’s section of a bustling bookshop, always being overlooked by the kids for the more attractive looking books with sparkly covers and gold stickers.

The other ‘more famous’ books in the shop are quite cheeky and get up to all sorts of mischief to make sure they are picked ahead of ‘The Lonely Book’, from James throwing his giant peach and it splattering down the front cover or being nibbled on by a hungry caterpillar.

That poor book looks more drab and worn out as the story progresses. If only that book had a voice of it’s own it could tell everyone what’s inside. Then one day a little lad discovers The Lonely Book and upon opening it, finds the treasures that lay inside!

The story and song delivers a very important moral – don’t judge a book by its cover.

Teddy Bear Hunt (with music downloadable QR code)
    32 pages - 24 x 24cm. Ages 0 - 7. Personally signed by songwriter
Be taken on a journey around the neighbourhood to discover the Teddy’s in their hiding places. Plus, have some counting fun at the same time too! The World’s Greatest Teddy Bear Hunt Book and Song has been recorded with the APO (Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra) and will get everyone singing and dancing to the catchy tune.

During lockdown the Teddy Bear became a symbol of comfort and joy to children and their families. Hours were spent walking around neighbourhoods hunting out Teddy Bears (and the odd Penguin, Elephant and Robot!) It was a chance to get out, enjoy some fresh air and exercise while sharing quality time with loved ones.

I’m the best MONKEY BAR SWINGER! I’m the best MONKEY BAR SWINGER! I’m the best, monkey bar swinger in the whole wide world There’s nobody better than me, Not a single boy or girl I like to do tricks, I like to do things like hanging upside down And when I reach the other end, I like to go again, so I turn around And when I turn around, there’s so many kids swinging in my way How will I get across, when there’s no room to swing or sway I will have to use my skills, to pass the obstacles, and reach the other side Without my feet touching the ground, cause that might hurt my pride So I start to swing across, grabbing each bar with my very strong hands I said to the first kid I met, “don’t you know who I think I am” Cause I’m the best monkey bar swinger in the whole wide world There’s nobody better than me, not a single boy or girl I swing to the left, I swing to the right Using all my strength and my might If I fall to the ground, I’ll dust myself down And try again Cause I’m the best, monkey bar swinger in the whole wide world There’s nobody better than me, Not a single boy or girl I like to do tricks, I like to do things like hanging upside down And when I reach the other end, I like to go again, so I turn around And when I turn around, there’s another bunch of kids swinging in my way How will I get across, when there’s no room to swing or sway I will have to use my skills, to pass the obstacles, and reach the other side Without my feet touching the ground, cause that might make me cry I start to swing across, grabbing each bar with my very strong hands I said to the next kid I met, “don’t you know who I think I am” Cause I’m the best monkey bar swinger in the whole wide world There’s nobody better than me, not a single boy or girl So I turn to my side, then I grip and I slide Using all my strength and my might If I fall to the ground, I’ll dust myself down And try again Cause I’m the best MONKEY BAR SWINGER! I’m the best MONKEY BAR SWINGER! In a bustling little bookshop, on the other side of town Is a shelf that’s full of Children’s books, where the kids all gather round Books old and new, some big, some small, some thick and some quite thin Others wide and others tall, to read or colour in But one book always seems left out, It’s never picked at all It’s covers drab, all tattered up, whatever did befall? It seems the other books around, have quite a cheeky streak They did what they could do to make, that lonely book look bleak That very hungry caterpillar had nibbled round the edge A donkey that was wonky buckerood it from the ledge It got tangled up and spun around, caught in Charlottes sticky web And the Tiger spilt his tea upon the front cover spread Well it’s quite some competition, to be the readers choice Trying to stand out amongst, such literary noise Some books have sparkly covers, gold stickers to attract The kids that swarm around the shelf, where all the books are stacked The Lonely book would love to have a following of fans But it seems that everyone these days, wants a Captain.. in underpants The other books block it from view, turned it the wrong way round And if they’re feeling really mean, they turn it upside down Well, James he threw his giant peach and it splattered down the front And Peter tried to eat it for his yummy rabbit lunch Beneath that big, yet friendly giant it’ becoming quite a crunch And Bob he soaked the pages through, oh what a naughty sponge Now if that book could speak out loud, was able to relay It’s feelings on this matter, It probably would say “If someone had the gumption to pick me of the shelf They’d probably realize I’m not to different from themself A spine is running down my back to keep me standing tall When I open up I make you smile and laugh and all My outside might be dull and worn but my insides full of colour Have you ever heard the saying don’t judge a book by its cover!” A wicked witch, cast a spell, to curse that lonely book There were slashes, tears and rips from the evil pirate hook Alice smashed her looking glass while trying to take a look And the bat car drove across the book while chasing all those crooks And then one day to it’s surprise a little lad walked up He saw the lonely book in shreds and looking down on luck He picked it up, eyes where wide looking quite aghast That no-one ever picked the book so he snapped it up quite fast Inside the book were treasure maps of fortunes yet unfound It showed the places where to dig a big hole in the ground He raced away with book in hand to start his treasure quest The ‘not so’ lonely book looked back to see the books bereft In that bustling little bookshop, on the other side of town Is a shelf that’s full of Children’s books, where the kids all gather round So make sure that the next time, you look carefully around Cause deep inside of everything, there’s a treasure to be found Cause deep inside of everything, there’s a treasure to be found

Where to today? pondered Mittens As he stretched a paw out of his bed “With the key to the city I am one lucky kitty” What adventures lay ahead. “Take a seat here”, said the barber “I Don’t mind if I do.” don’t use scissors… They give him the shivers "I really just need a shampoo!” (Thank you) Mittens, the most adventurous cat in the world He likes to investigate, just as much as licking his fur He may turn up in your back yard, your car, or favourite chair "So listen out carefully, for my familiar purrrr" Mittens passed by a strange building “Excuse me miss – where is this… please?” You have arrived, at the Beehive “That’s odd, I can’t see any bees.” Mittens tried out a Yoga Class He’d never done it before “But doing downward doggie Is no move for a moggie” So he ran straight out the door!!! Mittens the cat, loves to be free You may find him in your garden, going for a …. Erm “Excuse me!” He may be quite social, but he also likes privacy And he really loves annoying, that guy who owned Trade Me "What are you doing in my garden mittens" - hehe Mittens strolled in to the museum For a dose of arts, culture and history Got a BIG surprise, when he saw with his eyes “Hey, that’s a picture of me!” Mittens waltzed in to the theatre Now Showing CATS his favourite show At the top of his lungs Sings the songs to be sung From a seat in the front row Mittens the cat Has become a celebrity If you see him on your journey why not go and grab a selfie Then put it on the internet, for all the world to see Because knowing his location, keeps everyone happy – ”especially my owner” You may find him at the waterfront, by a fountain or up a tree In a tattoo parlour, or a café sipping tea Maybe in a dance club, practising merengue “Don’t worry I’m not lost, so come say hi to me” Mittens the cat, likes a pat on the head And seeing smiley faces from the kindness that he spreads It’s almost time to head home, to his comfy bed "But first I have an interview on Radio NZ Yes first I have an interview on Radio NZ"

Down on the farm, there was a little goat So full of confidence, and he just loved to boast The okee dokee goatee was his name, and showing off was his game Said YES to everything, that he was asked Would try almost anything, just for a laugh The okee dokee goatee was his name, and showing off was his game While walking round the farm one day he saw a herd of COWS Tell us a joke they said, and make us laugh out loud He said “okee dokee, it’s my specialty - I’m an expert in comedy” What do you call someone who sits under a cow? Pat! That jokey okee dokee goatee walked of feeling proud Having made that herd of cows, moo-laugh out aloud “The okee dokee goatee is my name, and I will try anything!” Nice Joke Okee – that was udderly amazing. So on he went walking till he saw a flock of GEESE Come and join us they said, we’re swimming in the creek He said “okee dokee, I’ll give it my best - but I’ll have to put on my life vest” Everybody put your life vests on Floaty okee dokee goatee rode the rapids feeling great And with his life vest firmly fitted, he was extra super safe “The okee dokee goatee is my name, and I will try anything!” Very sensible wearing a life vest Okee So on he went walking when he saw a little DUCKLING “Come, let’s make some music, dance and have a sing!” He Said “Okee Dokee, but let me say this, they say I am a lot like Elvis” You ain’t nothing but a hound goat – uh-hu-hu Kara-okee dokee goatee is a pop star in the making His singing is quite special and his hips were really shaking “The okee dokee goatee is my name, and I will try anything!” Now I think you get the point there isn’t much that’s Goat won’t do He will try anything, just for you But saying yes to everything, as you will see Doesn’t always end perfectly So….. On he went walking when he saw a big fat PIG “Come and share my meal” he said, “a mush of curried figs” He said “okee dokee, but let me just note, that curried figs make me bloat” The bloaty okee dokee goatee, had a belly full of gas And the only way to empty was to do some stinky blasts “The okee dokee goatee is my name, and I won’t try that food again!” Spicy food doesn’t agree with okee…oh dear! So on he went a walking when he came across a HORSE “Come and have a race, she said, around my racing course” He said “Okee Dokee, it sounds like a plan, I’m a former Olympian.” Puff pant, puff pant… Well that dopey Okee Dokee goatee quickly realized That in the last few years he’s done little exercise “The okee dokee goatee is my name, and.. my.. body.. is.. in.. a.. bit.. of.. pain!!!” Time to get back to the gym Okee! So on he went a walking when he saw the farmer’s DOG “Come play my jumping game across this muddy bog” He said “Okee dokee, I can do that! Jumping far is what I’m good at! Will he make it? Can he do it? Yes….oooh….Yes….Maybe…. Well that gloaty okee dokee goatee, leapt across the bog so wide And he jumped and spun with pride when he reach the other side “The okee dokee goatee is my name, and I will try…..err….hang on….I’m sliding back again! SPLOSH, SPLAT, SPLOOSH – more like the mopey okee dokee goatee Okee, you need a bath! Down on the farm, there was a little goat So full of confidence, he just loved to gloat The okee dokee goatee was his name, and showing off was his game Now Okee Dokee Goatee, would like this understood That if you don’t try new stuff, you’ll never get any good But don’t be concerned, I’ll just let you know If one day he says, a great big…. NO!

A Confident Goat, a Famous Cat and a Book That’s Doesn’t Want to be Judged by it’s Cover on Chris Sanders New Kids Album!

2020 NZ Children’s Award Best Artist and Tui Award Finalist Chris Sanders is set to release his 3rd children’s album ‘The Songs and Stories For Kids’ on full release November 5.

The 10-song album has some sensationally catchy, side splitting hilarious and downright rocky songs that will have the kids busting the moves or singing their hearts out, while the parents put their feet up for a much needed cuppa tea.

The 1st single ‘Monkey Bar Swinger’ which goes on pre-order October 29th, is for all those kids who think they are the best Monkey Bar Swinger in the whole wide world! The song will have the kids getting active, showing off their strong hands and arms, swinging from side to side and hanging upside down!

The NZ on Air supported album has a mix of songs and stories for kids that have become favourites at the many hundreds of shows Chris has performed at over the years.

“I love the fact that I can write a 2 to 3 minute catchy song that gets the kids dancing and singing along, or a 4 to 5 minute song that tells more of a story, taking the kids on a captivating journey and invigorating their minds,” says Sanders.

In fact 2 of the “storytelling” songs on the album have already been published as picture books. ‘The Lonely Book’ is a story about a book who never gets picked and all the more popular books in the bookstore do what they can do to make that poor book look more drab and bedraggled as the story progresses – until a little lad discovers all the treasures hidden inside!

Plus there is ‘Teddy Bear Hunt’ featuring the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra (APO). The song and book evoke fond memories of family time and a strengthening of community spirit during the lockdowns. It was also the first time in the APO’s 41 year history they have ever released a commercial song or a book.

The album includes the International Song Writing competition winner ‘Mitten’s - Official Song’ written about the famous Wellington cat who was given the key to the city by the Mayor and was up for NZ’er of the year against Jacinda Ardern. The song also reached #12 in the Official NZ Hot Singles Music Chart.

And Mitten’s isn’t the only creature who makes an appearance on the album. There’s Okee Dokee Goatee, a confident goat who finds it hard to say ‘NO’ leading to some quite comical situations, including an Elvis impersonation “You ain’t nothing but a hound goat,” and trying some spicy curried figs, which leads to some rather unpleasant stinky blasts!

“One of the things I’ve loved most about this album has been developing some cool characters, it’s not everyday you get to create the voice of a globally famous cat or an over-confident goat – there were definitely quite a few moments in the studio were I was rolling around in fits of laughter, so I hope the listeners do too!”

The album was produced by Rikki Morris and also features some incredible other kiwi musicians including Lucy Hiku and Jenny Payne from Itty Bitty Beats on the opening track ‘Kia Ora Are Such Beautiful Words’ and the Nashville based George Jackson who plays fiddle and banjo on Okee Dokee Goatee.
